Cause

When you try to install Service Pack 2 on the Windows Server 2003 computer, the following error message occurs:

The Service Pack 2� <installationfilepath>\i386\update\update.inf file is not correct.

Resolution

This may occur if the following registry entry is not correct:

Key:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion]
Value:
ProgramFilesDir

By default, if�Windows is installed on the C: drive,�the data of this value should be C:\Program Files. If the value was changed to a different location, the problem may occur.

More information

1. Run Registry Editor (regedit.exe) and browse to the following registry key:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion]

2. In the right pane,�find the following value:

Value: ProgramFilesDir
Type: REG_SZ

3. Double click this value and set its data to the correct one. For example, if Windows is installed on the C: drive, this value should be "c:\program files" (without the quotation marks).
