The logon process is unsuccessful and you receive a "MAPI_E_FAILONEPROVIDER (0x8004011D)" error message in an Exchange Server 2003 environment

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario.
  • You are using a MAPI-based or CDO-based application to connect to an Exchange Server 2003-based server.
  • The MAPI-based or CDO-based application is installed on a computer that is not in the same domain as the Exchange Server 2003-based server.
  • The MAPI-based or CDO-based application prompts for credentials during logon.
In this scenario, the logon process is unsuccessful. Additionally, when you run other operations that use the OpenMsgStore method, you receive the following error message:
