A video call may fail when you try to start the video call by using Office Communicator on a computer that is running Windows Server 2008 or Windows Vista

When you try to start a video call by using Microsoft Office Communicator on a computer that is running Windows Server 2008 or Windows Vista, the video call may fail.

This problem may occur when a third-party legacy Transport Driver Interface (TDI) filter driver is installed on the computer. TDI filter drivers may be used by some antivirus software.

When there is a third-party legacy TDI filter driver installed on a computer that is running Windows Server 2008 or Windows Vista, the system receives error code WSAEADDRINUSE (10048) when the system tries to bind the socket for the first time. When the system tries to bind the socket for the second time, it receives error code WSAEINVAL (10022). This series of events may cause Office Communicator to be unable to bind to a specific local endpoint and to be unable to start the video call.

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.

MUM and MANIFEST files and their associated security catalog (.cat) files are critical to maintaining the state of the updated component.
