The validation checks do not run when you try to save an invalid value in a field for an attribute form of an entity in Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0

Symptoms

In an attribute form of an entity in Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0, you change the original value in a field to an invalid value. However, when you save the attribute form, no validation checks run.

This problem occurs if one of the following conditions is true:
  • You change the value in the Maximum Length field or in the Minimum Length field for an attribute whose type is nvarchar or memo.
  • You change the value in the Maximum Value field or in the Minimum Value field for an attribute whose type is int, float, decimal, or money.

Installation information

Install this hotfix on computers that are running the Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 server and the Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 client for Microsoft Office Outlook.

After you install this hotfix, delete the temporary Internet files in Windows Internet Explorer. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Start Internet Explorer.
  2. Click Tools, and then click Internet Options.
  3. Use one of the following methods:
    • For Windows Internet Explorer 7, click Delete in the Browsing history area, and then click Delete files in the Temporary Internet Files area. Then, click Yes.
    • For Microsoft Internet Explorer 6, click Delete Files in the Temporary Internet files area, and then click OK.

Prerequisites

You must have the Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 server and the Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 client for Microsoft Office Outlook installed to apply this hotfix.

Restart requirement

If you are prompted, restart the computer after you install the hotfix.

Removal information

To remove this hotfix from a computer that is running Windows Server 2003, Windows XP, or Microsoft Windows 2000, use Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel. System administrators can use the Spuninst.exe tool to remove this hotfix from a computer that is running Windows Server 2003, Windows XP, or Microsoft Windows 2000.

The Spuninst.exe tool is located in the %Windir%\$NTUninstallKB946416$\Spuninst folder.

More information

This problem occurs if you change the original value in any of the following fields to a value that exceeds the range of the value in the field:
  • Maximum Length
  • Minimum Length
  • Maximum Value
  • Minimum Value
If you immediately close the attribute form that contains the invalid value, you receive the following warning message:
Are you sure you want to navigate away from this page?

If you click OK, your changes will be lost.
--------------------------------------------
Press OK to continue, or Cancel to stay on the current page.
When you click Cancel to return to the attribute form, the invalid value that you typed stays in the attribute form. Then, if you save the attribute form, one of the following events occurs:
  • You do not receive a message from the validation checks, and then the saving process is completed. Therefore, the invalid value is saved.
  • You receive the following error message during the saving process:
    An error has occurred. For more information, contact your system administrator.
However, if you save an attribute form that contains an invalid value, you expect that the validation checks will run and will detect the invalid value.
