To resolve this problem, break the software mirror before you perform the upgrade to Windows Server 2008. To break the software mirror, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, point to Administrative Tools, click Computer Management, and then click Disk Management.
  2. Right-click the system volume from which you are booting, and select Break Mirrored Volume.

For example, if the system volume is mirrored from Disk0 to Disk1, right-click the system volume on Disk0, and then select Break Mirrored Volume.
  3. Click Yes, and then close Disk Management.
  4. Upgrade Windows Server 2003 to Windows Server 2008.
  5. After the upgrade is complete, use Disk Management to re-establish the software mirror.
