A Communicator 2007 Phone Edition-based device stops trying to obtain a DHCP address from a DHCP server

Symptoms

A Microsoft Office Communicator 2007 Phone Edition-based device tries to obtain a Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) address from a DHCP server. If the DHCP server is unavailable for some time or if the DHCP server responds with errors, the device stops trying to obtain the address. However, the device still appears to be trying to obtain the address even after the DHCP server becomes available.

Resolution

To resolve this problem, install the hotfix that is described in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article:
946149  Description of the Communicator 2007 Phone Edition update: December 17, 2007
After you apply this update, the Communicator 2007 Phone Edition-based device retries the DHCP request until the device obtains the address.
