The Microsoft Firewall service may crash when you use a custom Web filter in ISA Server 2004 to add headers to HTTP responses

Symptoms

When you use a custom Web filter in Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server 2004 to add headers to HTTP responses, the Microsoft Firewall service may crash. This problem typically occurs when the Web server first sends an HTTP "100-Continue" response before it sends the complete HTTP response.

When this problem occurs, the follow event is logged in the System log:

Description:
The Microsoft Firewall service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 1 time(s).

Additionally, the following event is logged in the Application log:

Description:
The Firewall service stopped because an application filter module c:\Program files\Microsoft ISA Server\w3filter.dll generated an exception code C0000005

Hotfix information

Restart requirement

You do not have to restart the computer after you apply this hotfix. However, services that are related to ISA Server 2004 automatically restart during the hotfix installation process.
