You receive a Stop error message when a computer that is using a TCP/IP Offload Engine (TOE)-enabled adapter is running under low resources in Windows Server 2003

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You are using a computer that is running Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2 (SP2).

    Or, you are using a computer that is running Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 (SP1) on which you have installed the following items:
    • The Windows Server 2003 Scalable Networking Pack
    • Hotfix 919948
  • The computer is using a TCP/IP Offload Engine (TOE)-enabled network adapter.
  • The computer is running under low resources.
  • The network adapter is under stress.
In this scenario, you receive a Stop error message that resembles one of the following error messages:
STOP: 0x000000C5 ( parameter1 , parameter2 , parameter3 , parameter4 ) DRIVER_CORRUPTED_EXPOOL
STOP: 0x000000D1 ( parameter1 , parameter2 , parameter3 , parameter4 ) DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
STOP: 0x000000D5 ( parameter1 , parameter2 , parameter3 , parameter4 ) DRIVER_PAGE_FAULT_IN_FREED_SPECIAL_POOL
Notes
  • The parameters in the Stop error message vary, depending on the configuration of the computer and depending on the issue type.
  • Not all "0x000000C5," "0x000000D1," and "0x000000D5" Stop errors are caused by this problem.

Resolution

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing.
