Output of remote shell (rsh) commands is not redirected to a local file when you run the commands against a remote shell server that is hosted in SUA on a Windows Server 2003 R2-based computer

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • On a UNIX-based computer, you use the remote shell (rsh) program to run some commands in a remote shell session.
  • The remote shell session runs against a remote shell server (rshd). The server is hosted in the Subsystem for UNIX-based Applications (SUA) on a Windows Server 2003 R2-based computer.
  • You run the commands in the background.
  • You redirect the command output to a local file.
In this scenario, the local file contains no information.

Resolution

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing.
