Introduction

Issue that this hotfix package fixes

This hotfix fixes the following issue that is not previously documented in a Microsoft Knowledge Base article:

In a database that was created in the Spanish version of Microsoft Office Access 2007, you receive the following error message if you run objects that use the Left function:
Error de sintaxis en la expression den consulta 'Izq(<Parameter1>;<Parameter2>)'.
Note The Izq function is the Spanish name of the Left function.

Additionally, you cannot directly use the Izq function. You have to rely on Access to translate the Izq function into the Left function. If you use the Izq function instead of the Left function, you receive the following error message:
La function 'Izq' no esta definida en la expression.

Effect on databases that are created in Access 2003

For databases that were created in Access 2003 and that are opened in the Spanish version of Access 2007, you do not encounter this issue if you run existing objects that use the Left function. However, if you edit an expression that contains the Left function in an object, you receive the following error message when you run the object:
Erro de sintaxis en la expression den consulta 'Izq(<Parameter1>;<Parameter2>)'.
This issue occurs because the Spanish version of Access 2007 translates the Left function into the Izq. function instead of into the Izq function. However, the Izq. function is not valid.

Note You usually use the Left function in a condition of a macro or in the expression of one of the following:
  • A query
  • A text box in a form
  • A text box in a report
