How to install Analytical Accounting for Microsoft FRx

Download the "FRx 6.7 Analytical Accounting Add-In.zip" file

To download the "FRx 6.7 Analytical Accounting Add-In.zip" file, select the appropriate Microsoft FRx 6.7 service pack link. To do this, visit one of the following Microsoft Web sites, depending on whether you are a partner or a customer.

Before you install Analytical Accounting

Before you install Analytical Accounting, follow these steps:

1. Make a backup of the SysData folder.
2. Locate the FRxReg.exe file, and then double-click the FRxReg.exe file. By default, the FRxReg.exe file is located in the following directory:
   C:\Program Files\FRx Software\FRx 6.7
3. Unzip the "FRx 6.7 Analytical Accounting Add-In.zip" file, and then run the "FRx 6.7 Analytical Accounting Add-In.msi" file to start the installation.
   
   Note If you want to generate reports to the Microsoft FRx Report Server, and the reports include an Analytical Accounting company, Analytical Accounting for Microsoft FRx must also be installed on the server that is running the Report Server.

How to install Analytical Accounting

To install Analytical Accounting, follow these steps:

1. To start the installation process, double-click the FRx 6.7 Add-In for Microsoft Dynamics GP Analytical Accounting.msi file.
2. Click Next.
   
3. Accept the license agreement, and then click Next.
   
4. Click Install.
   
5. When the installer is completed, click Finish.
   
6. The installer adds an "Analytical Accounting" folder to the Microsoft FRx directory. By default, the path is as follows:
   C:\Program Files\FRx Software\FRx 6.7\Analytical Accounting
7. Double-click the Analytical Accounting folder, and then double-click the Scripts folder. To run the SQL scripts, follow the steps in the Readme.txt file.
8. When both of the scripts have finished, double-click the AAWizard.exe file to open the Analytical Accounting Dimension wizard. By default, the path is as follows:
   C:\Program Files\FRx Software\FRx 6.7\Analytical Accounting
9. Click Next.
   
   
10. In step 1 of the Analytical Accounting Dimension wizard, follow these steps:
    
    1. In the list, select the Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) data source.
       
    2. In the System Database box, type DYNAMICS.
       
    3. In the Login box, type the username that is used to connect to the DYNAMICS database.
       
    4. In the Password box, type the password for the user in step 10c.
       
    5. In the Company list, select the company from which you want to retrieve the Analytical Accounting information.
       
    6. Click Next.
       
11. In step 2 of the wizard, enter the appropriate information, as follows:
    • Dimension code
      You will see the current transaction dimension codes that you created for the company that you selected in step 10e. Only alphanumeric dimensions are displayed in the Dimension wizard, because the following dimensions are defined in the column layout of Microsoft FRx:
      • Date
      • Numeric
      • Yes/No
    • Dimension length
      The dimension length is derived from the length of the longest code for that transaction dimension for this company. If, in the future, you will add codes that have a longer length than the length that is listed, you can increase the length. The maximum dimension length is 31. To change the length, enter the desired length, and then click Update Changes.
      
      Note If you change the dimension length, you cannot change it back to the original value.
    • Dimension description
      The dimension descriptions are the actual descriptions of the transaction dimensions from Microsoft Dynamics GP. In the Transaction Dimension Maintenance window, Microsoft FRx displays the text that is entered in the Description 1 box. Microsoft FRx does not display the text that is entered in the Trx Dimension box. Therefore, if you have two transaction dimension descriptions that are the same, modify the appropriate transaction dimension description in Analytical Accounting for Microsoft Dynamics GP. To do this, click Cards, point to Financial, point to Analytical Accounting, and then click Transaction Dimension.
12. In step 3 of the wizard, you can create a dimension structure, edit a dimension structure, or delete a dimension structure from this window.
    • To create a new dimension structure, click New, and then go to step 13.
    • To edit or to delete a dimension structure, select the dimension structure, and then click Edit or Delete.
    • To update the chart of accounts, click Refresh COA.
13. In step 4 of the wizard, select the dimensions that you want to add to this dimension structure, and then click the right arrow button to move the dimension to the "Selected Dimension(s)" window.
    
    
    
    Note After you have selected the transaction dimensions, make sure that the transaction dimensions are in the correct order. The order in which the dimensions appear is the order in which they will be displayed in Microsoft FRx when you create reports.
14. In step 5 of the wizard, type a dimension structure name. Note the name, because this name is used when you create the Analytical Accounting company in Microsoft FRx. Then, click Save and Finish.
    
    
    
    Note When the dimension structures are created, Microsoft FRx lists the transaction dimensions after the account segments in the order in which the transaction dimensions were selected.
    
15. Start Microsoft FRx, click Company, and then click Information.
16. To configure Analytical Accounting for Microsoft FRx, create a new company. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. In the FRx company code box, type the code that you want to use for the company.
       
    2. In the Company name box, type the name that you want to use for the company.
       
    3. In the Accounting System list, select Analytical Accounting.
    4. Click the System Specific Information tab.
    5. In the Data Source Name list, select the data source for the Microsoft Dynamics GP company.
    6. In the System Database box, type DYNAMICS.
    7. In the Company Database box, type the company that contains the Analytical Accounting information.
    8. In the Dimension Structure box, type the dimension structure that you created in step 14.
    9. Click to select the Rebuild Chart of Accounts check box.
       
       Note This check box must be selected when you first set up Analytical Accounting. However, you can click to clear the check box after you log on to the Analytical Accounting company. If you add a chart of accounts, or if you change the chart of accounts, select this option again.
