FIX: Error message when you run the "sort" command in the Interix subsystem that is included with Windows Services for UNIX 3.5 or with Subsystem for UNIX-based Applications: "Segmentation fault"

Symptoms

On a computer that has Windows Services for UNIX 3.5 installed or on a Windows Server 2003 R2-based computer that has Subsystem for UNIX-based Applications (SUA) installed, the sort command in the Interix subsystem may exit unexpectedly. This problem occurs when the sort command processes certain files. When this problem occurs, you receive the following error message:
Segmentation fault (core dumped)

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.
