After installing Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2 on the RIS server, you find that the Remote Installation Service failed to start. You may see popup reporting that "At least one service or driver failed during system starup" In the event log you may see the message "The RIS terminated with the following error : the specified procedure could not be found".

Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2 should replace the Remote Installation Service with the Windows Deployment Services Server. If the installation of the Service Pack does not remove the Remote Installation Service successfully, you may experience this behavior.

To resolve this issue, follow the steps below to manually remove Remote Installation Service.
1. On the server, open a command prompt.
2. Switch to the drive that has the RIS remote install folder. For example:
cd d:
3. Run the following command:
risetup �upgrade
4. Reboot the server.
