The Store.exe process stops responding on an Exchange 2003 Service Pack 2 server

Symptoms

The Store.exe process stops responding intermittently when the public folder store is running on a server that is running Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 Service Pack 2 (SP2). Additionally, the following event is logged in the System log:

Event ID: 7034
Event Source: Service Control Manager
Event Type: Error
Description: The Microsoft Exchange Information Store service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 1 time(s).

The following events are logged in the Application log:

Event ID: 1000
Event Source: Microsoft Exchange Server
Event Type: Error
Description: Faulting application store.exe, version xxxx , stamp xxxx , faulting module xxxx , version xxxx.

Event ID: 9643
Event Type: Information
Event Source: MSExchangeIS
Event Category: General
Description: Process termination function StoreTerminateProcess was called by a function in module <drive>:\Program Files\Exchsrvr\bin\ESE.dll; some parameters and their values were <uExitCode - -1>. A significant section of the call stack is in the data section.

Resolution

Hotfix information

Prerequisites

To apply this hotfix, you must have Exchange 2003 SP2 installed.

Restart requirement

You do not have to restart the computer after you apply this hotfix. However, the Microsoft Exchange Information Store service, the Microsoft Search service, the IIS Admin Service, and all dependent services are restarted when you apply this hotfix.

Hotfix replacement information

This hotfix does not replace a previously released hotfix.
