Error message when you try to rename a file that contains Japanese characters in the file name on a Windows Server 2003 R2-based computer or on a Windows Storage Server 2003-based computer: "No such file or directory"

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You set up a Server for Network File System (NFS) environment on a computer that is running Microsoft Windows Server 2003 R2 or that is running Windows Storage Server 2003 R2.
  • You try to rename a file by using the mv command.
In this scenario, you may receive the following error message:
No such file or directory.
This problem occurs when the following conditions are true:
  • The file name contains Japanese characters.
  • The file name is encoded in Extended Unix Code (EUC).

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.
