The MOM server reports error 20003 when monitoring Exchange Server 2003-based front-end servers that have security update 931212 applied

Symptoms

You apply security update 931212 on a Microsoft Exchange 2003 SP2-based front-end server that is monitored by the Microsoft Exchange 2003 Management Pack for Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) 2005. After you do this, the MOM server reports the following error:

However, users can still connect to Outlook Web Access.

After you apply security update 931212 on a Microsoft Exchange 2003 SP2-based front-end server that is monitored by Microsoft System Center Operations Manager 2007, System Center logs an event that resembles the following event:

Computer: SERVERNAME
Description: OWA logon verification : OWA Logon failed. URL: https://ServerFQDN/exchange/testmailboxaccount Descripton: Authentication failed. The logon request was redirected back to the logon page. This may indicate the credential for Mailbox Access Account is incorrect. Run the Exchange Management Pack Configuration Utility again to verify.

Additionally, the following messages may appear in the Operations Manager 2007 Console:
EAS logon verification : Cannot measure EAS availability for the following URL: 0x80131502(-2146233086) Index was out of range. Must be non-negative and less than the size of the collection.

Cause

This problem occurs because security update 931212 changes character processing. These changes to character processing can cause Outlook Web Access availability test failure.

Resolution

Hotfix information
