A MAPI application crashes on an Exchange Server 2003 server

Symptoms

When you run a MAPI application on an Exchange Server 2003 server, the application may crash.

Cause

This issue occurs because the memory is not correctly allocated in MAPI. The allocation causes an Access Violation error 0xc0000005.

Resolution

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing the problem described in this article. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Prerequisites

Restart requirement

You do not have to restart the computer after you apply this hotfix. However, the Microsoft Exchange System Attendant service is restarted when you apply this hotfix.
