A blank Internet Explorer window does not close automatically as expected after you open an Office document in Internet Explorer 7

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • In Windows Internet Explorer 7, you click a link in a Web page to open a Microsoft Office document.
  • A blank Internet Explorer window is opened. At the same time, a File Download box appears.
In this scenario, if you click Open to open the document, the document is successfully opened. However, the blank Internet Explorer window does not close automatically as expected.

Notes:

If you click Save or Cancel, the blank Internet Explorer window closes automatically as expected.
