The permanent event registrations of an application are disabled if it receives WMI events from a .NET-managed code-provider application on a Windows Server 2003-based computer

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You are running a Windows Server 2003-based computer.
  • An application on this computer receives WMI events from a .NET-managed code-provider application.
In this scenario, the permanent event registrations of the application are disabled. Therefore, you cannot start a new instance of the application.

Cause

This issue occurs if the following conditions are true:
  • There are multiple instances of the .NET-managed code-provider application.
  • One instance crashes, or one instance is terminated abnormally.
This issue occurs when the instance of the application is terminated in a manner in which the System.Management.Instrumentation classes are not unregistered. In this situation, Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) disables the permanent event registration for all instances of the application until the WMI service is restarted or until the computer is restarted.
