On a Windows Server 2003 R2-based computer, a POSIX application that calls the Sleep function does not work correctly if the system clock is changed during the sleep interval

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario.
  • You are running a Windows Server 2003 R2-based computer that has Subsystem for UNIX-based Applications (SUA) installed.
  • On this computer, a Portable Operating System for UNIX (POSIX) application is running.
  • The application calls the Sleep function to suspend the execution of the current thread for a while.
  • The system clock is changed during the sleep interval.
In this scenario, the application that calls the Sleep function does not work correctly. If the system clock is set backward, the application may stop responding. If the system clock is set forward, the application resumes the execution of the current thread before the sleep interval ends.

Note This problem also occurs when you run the Sleep command on a Windows Server 2003 R2-based computer that has SUA installed.
