More information

The Microsoft Dynamics CRM-Exchange E-mail Router must be installed on a server that is running Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server or Microsoft Exchange Server 2003. If you use Exchange 2007, you must consider compatibility issues between Exchange 2007 and the Microsoft Dynamics CRM-Exchange E-mail Router.

During the installation of Exchange Server, you must run a forest prep and a domain prep to apply schema changes to the Active Directory forest and to the Active Directory domain. These schema changes accommodate the server that is running Exchange Server, and these schema changes are irreversible.

Exchange 2007 requires schema changes that differ from the schema changes that earlier versions of Exchange Server require. Exchange 2007 adds some new schemas and omits some old schemas.

If you upgraded from an earlier version of Exchange Server to Exchange 2007, the upgrade leaves the old schemas and adds the new schemas. However, if you performed a fresh installation of Exchange 2007, the installation only adds the new schemas.

If you upgraded from an earlier version of Exchange Server to Exchange 2007, you can have a side-by-side implementation of Exchange 2000 and Exchange 2007 or of Exchange 2003 and Exchange 2007 within a domain. However, if you performed a fresh installation of Exchange 2007, you cannot install Exchange 2000 or Exchange 2003 in the domain.

To install the Microsoft Dynamics CRM-Exchange E-mail Router on a server that is running Exchange 2007, use one of the following methods, depending on if you upgraded from an earlier version of Exchange Server or if you performed a fresh installation of Exchange 2007.

Method 1: You upgraded from an earlier version of Exchange Server to Exchange 2007

If you upgraded from an earlier version of Exchange Server to Exchange 2007, you can have a side-by-side implementation of Exchange 2000 and Exchange 2007 or of Exchange 2003 and Exchange 2007.

To install the Microsoft Dynamics CRM-Exchange E-mail Router, follow these steps:
  1. On the server that is running Exchange 2007, install Exchange 2000, or install Exchange 2003.
  2. On the server, install the Microsoft Dynamics CRM-Exchange E-mail Router.
  3. To use the Rules Deployment Wizard for the mailboxes on the server that is running Exchange 2007, apply hotfix 930140 for the Microsoft Dynamics CRM-Exchange E-mail Router.

930140 Error message when you run the Rule Deployment Wizard to deploy the mailbox rules to Microsoft Exchange Server mailboxes in Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0: "Failed to save the rule to the user's mailbox"

Method 2: You performed a fresh installation of Exchange 2007, and you can uninstall Exchange 2007

If you performed a fresh installation of Exchange 2007 and you can uninstall Exchange 2007, you may decide to uninstall Exchange 2007 and the corresponding schema changes to the Active Directory forest and to the Active Directory domain.

To install the Microsoft Dynamics CRM-Exchange E-mail Router, follow these steps:
  1. Uninstall Exchange 2007.
  2. Restore Active Directory to the point where you installed Exchange 2007.
  3. Install Exchange 2000 or Exchange 2003, and then apply the corresponding schema changes.
  4. Install the Microsoft Dynamics CRM-Exchange E-mail Router.

Method 3: You performed a fresh installation of Exchange 2007, and you cannot uninstall Exchange 2007

If you performed a fresh installation of Exchange 2007 and you cannot uninstall Exchange 2007, you must create a separate Active Directory forest for Exchange 2007. Then, you can install Exchange 2000 or Exchange 2003 and the corresponding schema changes.

To install the Microsoft Dynamics CRM-Exchange E-mail Router, follow these steps:
  1. Install a new domain controller, and then set the new domain controller as the root domain for a new Active Directory forest.
  2. Install Exchange 2000 or Exchange 2003, and then apply the corresponding schema changes.
  3. Enable routings between both Active Directory forests.
  4. Create two-way trusts between both Active Directory forests.
  5. On the server that is running Exchange 2000 or Exchange 2003, install the Microsoft Dynamics CRM-Exchange E-mail Router.
  6. Make sure that the Microsoft Dynamics CRM-Exchange E-mail Router service runs under a domain user account.
  7. Add the domain user account of the Microsoft Dynamics CRM-Exchange E-mail Router service to the PrivUserGroup security group in the original domain.
  8. Change the scope of the PrivUserGroup security group from the global level to the domain local level.

Note If you do this, users from other Active Directory forests can be added.
