How to use the ISA15 property and the UNB11 property to route test messages and production messages in BizTalk Server 2006 R2

View products that this article applies to.

Introduction

In Microsoft BizTalk Server 2006 R2, you cannot set a value for the ISA15 (Usage Indicator) property on the X12 Interchange Processing Properties page. The X12 Interchange Processing Properties page is under Party as Interchange Sender in the EDI Properties dialog box. However, you can set a value for the ISA15 (Usage Indicator) property on the ISA Segment Definition page. The ISA Segment Definition page is under Party as Interchange Receiver in the EDI Properties dialog box.

Additionally, you cannot set a value for the UNB11 (Test Indicator) property on the EDIFACT Interchange Processing Properties page. The EDIFACT Interchange Processing Properties page is under Party as Interchange Sender in the EDI Properties dialog box. However, you can a set a value for the UNB11 (Test Indicator) property on the UNB Segment Definition page. The UNB Segment Definition page is under Party as Interchange Receiver in the EDI Properties dialog box.

Note The ISA15 property and the UNB11 property are used to determine whether the message data is for a test or for production.

This article describes how to use the ISA15 property and the UNB11 property to route test messages and production messages.

More information

To use the ISA15 property and the UNB11 property to route test messages and production messages, promote the ISA15 property and the UNB11 property as promoted properties. Then, use the promoted properties as the criteria for routing. Because you can use the promoted properties as the criteria for routing, you can configure the BizTalk solution to have one send port that subscribes to test messages and another send port that subscribes to production messages.

To configure the BizTalk solution, configure filters on the send ports. Configure the filters to subscribe to messages that have a specific value for the EDI.ISA15 property or for the EDI.UNB11 property. The values that are valid for the properties are as follows.
Promoted propertyValueData type
ISA15IInformation
ISA15PProduction
ISA15TTest
UNB111Test
Notes
  • The UNB11 property is not used for production messages.
  • When BizTalk Server 2006 R2 sends an "Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) 997 functional acknowledgement" for an X12 message that is received, BizTalk Server 2006 R2 sets the value of the ISA15 property according to the settings for the EDI party.
