Introduction

This article discusses how to use Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) 2005 together with an existing installation of the BizTalk Server 2006 Management Pack to monitor instances of Microsoft BizTalk Server 2006 R2.

Both management packs are included in the same download. To use MOM 2005 together with the BizTalk Server 2006 Management Pack to monitor BizTalk Server 2006 R2, follow these steps:
  1. Start the MOM 2005 Administrator Console.
  2. Expand Microsoft Operations Manager, expand Management Packs, right-click Computer Groups, and then click Create Computer Group.
  3. On the "Welcome to the Create Computer Group Wizard" page, click Next.
  4. In the Name box, type the name that you want to use for the new group, and then click Next. For example, type BizTalk Server 2006 R2, and then click Next.
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the steps in the Create Computer Group Wizard.

    Note Use the same settings that you used for the BizTalk Server 2006 computer group.
  6. Expand Computer Groups, right-click BizTalk Server 2006 R2, and then click Properties.
  7. On the Formula tab, type the following in the Formula for computer group box, and then click OK:
    (MatchWildcard(AttributeValue(BizTalkServer2006Attribute), "<BuildNumber>") ) AND ( NOT ( AttributeValue(Virtual Server Type) OR AttributeValue(IsHostingMSCS) ) OR MatchRegEx( AttributeValue(Virtual Server Type), "BTSSvc*" ) )
  8. In the MOM 2005 Administrator Console, expand Rule Groups.
  9. Right-click BAM, and then click Properties.
  10. On the Computer Groups page, click Add.
  11. On the Select Item page, click BizTalk Server 2006 R2, and then click OK.
  12. Repeat steps 9 through 11 for the following rule groups:
    • BAS
    • BizTalk Server Core
    • Microsoft Enterprise Single Sign-On
  13. Right-click Management Packs, and then click Commit Configuration Change.
Note When you use MOM 2005 to monitor BizTalk Server 2006 R2, the events that you see are identical to the events that you see on a computer on which BizTalk Server 2006 is installed. To determine whether a particular event is from BizTalk Server 2006 or from BizTalk Server 2006 R2, you must cross-reference the event by using the computer name together with the version of BizTalk Server that is installed.
