A user can run the Mail Merge function even if you remove the Mail Merge privilege from the role that the user has in Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0

You remove the Mail Merge privilege from a role in Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0. However, a user who has the role can still run the Mail Merge function for the following entities:

• An account
• A contact
• A lead

Additionally, the user who has this role can unexpectedly run the Mail Merge function to send campaign activities after the user creates the campaign activities.

This problem was corrected in Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 Update Rollup 3.
