An OWA user may not receive a password-expiration warning in an Exchange Server 2003 organization if the user's display name contains certain DBCS characters

Symptoms

In a Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 organization, an Outlook Web Access (OWA) user may not receive a password-expiration warning as expected. This problem may occur if the user's display name contains double-byte character set (DBCS) characters. For example, this problem may occur if the user's display name contains certain Norwegian characters.

Note This problem occurs only if user's display name contains certain special DBCS characters.

Resolution

Hotfix information

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.

Prerequisites

Restart requirement

You do not have to restart the computer after you apply this hotfix. However, the following services and all the dependent services are stopped and then restarted automatically when you apply this hotfix:
  • Microsoft Exchange Information Store
  • Microsoft Search
  • IIS Admin Service
