You do not receive an overcurrent notification when the USB bus becomes overloaded on a computer that is running Windows Server 2003 or Windows XP Professional x64 Edition and that is using an NVIDIA USB controller

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You use a computer that is running Windows Server 2003 or Windows XP Professional x64 Edition.
  • An NVIDIA USB controller is being used on the computer.
  • Devices connected to the USB bus draw excessive amounts of power (current) from the USB port on the computer.
In this scenario, you do not receive an overcurrent notification. For example, you do not receive a notification that the sum of the power requirements for the connected USB devices is more than the available power that the USB bus provides.

NoteIf you have many USB devices that are connected to the USB bus, one or more of these USB devices may not work. Also, if the overcurrent condition causes a USB port failure, the system may stop responding.

Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing.
