A mailbox store in a recovery storage group cannot be dismounted, and the Microsoft Exchange Information Store service cannot be shut down on an Exchange 2003 server

Symptoms

When you try to use the Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 Recover Mailbox Data feature to restore an Exchange 2003 mailbox from a recovery storage group, you experience the following symptoms:
  • The mailbox cannot be restored.
  • The mailbox store cannot be dismounted in the recovery storage group.
  • The Microsoft Exchange Information Store service cannot be shut down.

Hotfix information

Restart requirement

You do not have to restart the computer after you apply this hotfix. However, the following services are automatically restarted when you apply this hotfix:

  • The Internet Information Services (IIS) Admin Service
  • The World Wide Web Publishing Service
  • The Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) service
  • The Microsoft Exchange Routing Engine service
  • The Microsoft Exchange POP3 service
  • The Network News Transfer Protocol (NNTP) service
  • The HTTP SSL service
  • The Microsoft Search service
