Error message when you click OK on the last page of the Package Solution Wizard in Access 2007 Developer Extensions: "An unexpected error has occurred"

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario. You install Microsoft Office Access 2007 Developer Extensions. In Microsoft Office Access 2007, you create a database. Then, you use the Package Solution Wizard. In this scenario, you receive the following error message when you click OK on the last page of the Package Solution Wizard:
An unexpected error has occurred.

Cause

This problem occurs because Access 2007 opens the database that you specify in the File to package box in exclusive mode.

Notes
  • When you create a database in Access 2007, Access 2007 opens the new database in exclusive mode.
  • The File to package box is on the second page of the Package Solution Wizard.

Workaround

To work around this problem, close the database for which you want to create a package, and then rebuild the package. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Close the database for which you want to create a package.
  2. Start Access 2007.
  3. Click the Microsoft Office Button, point to Developer, and then click Package Solution.
  4. In the Package Solution Wizard, click Next.
  5. On the second page of the Package Solution Wizard, click Browse next to the File to package box, and then locate the database that you closed in step 1.
  6. Provide the other necessary information, and then finish the Package Solution Wizard.

More information

In Access 2007, a database is not opened in exclusive mode if you close the database and then you reopen the database.

To open a database in exclusive mode, follow these steps:
  1. Start Access 2007.
  2. Click the Microsoft Office Button, and then click Open.
  3. In the Open dialog box, locate the database.
  4. Click the arrow next to Open, and then click Open Exclusive.

Steps to reproduce the problem

  1. Start Access 2007.
  2. Create a database.
  3. In the database, click the Microsoft Office Button, point to Developer, and then click Package Solution.
  4. In the Package Solution Wizard, click Next.
  5. On the second page of the Package Solution Wizard, specify the database that you created in step 2 in the File to package box.
  6. On the second page of the Package Solution Wizard, provide the necessary information, and then click Next.
  7. On the third page of the Package Solution Wizard, click Next.
  8. On the fourth page of the Package Solution Wizard, provide the necessary information, and then click OK.
  9. In the Package Solution Wizard, click Save Wizard Settings.
  10. In the Save As dialog box, specify a file name in the File name box, specify a location, and then click Save.
  11. In the Package Solution Wizard, click OK.
