You cannot process an activity that you are viewing in Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0

Symptoms

You cannot process an activity that you are viewing in Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0. This problem occurs because the activity is read-only. For example, you cannot edit the activity, delete the activity, or reassign the activity. Additionally, the activity owner in the activitypartybase table is incorrect.

Resolution

This problem was corrected in Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 Update Rollup 3.

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.

Installation information

Install this hotfix on computers that are running the Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 server.

Prerequisites

You must have Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 installed to apply this hotfix.

Restart requirement

If you are prompted to restart the computer, you must restart the computer after you apply this hotfix.

Removal information

To remove this hotfix from a computer that is running Windows Server 2003, Windows XP, or Windows 2000, use the Add or Remove Programs item in Control Panel. System administrators can use the Spuninst.exe tool to remove this hotfix from a computer that is running Windows Server 2003, Windows XP, or Windows 2000.

To determine whether you are experiencing the problem that is described in the "Symptoms" section, follow these steps:
  1. Open SQL Query Analyzer.
  2. In the Query window, run the following script against the OrganizationName_MSCRM database.
    select distinct s.fullname from activityparty a

    join systemuserbase s on
a.partyid = s.systemuserid
and a.participationtypemask = 9 
and a.partyid <> a.owninguser
order by fullname

    Note The results of this script will list any Microsoft Dynamics CRM users who own activity records that are affected by this problem.
