It takes a long time for Outlook Web Access clients to receive a response from a front-end server in an Exchange 2003 environment

Symptoms

In a Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 environment, users access their mailboxes by using a Microsoft Office Outlook Web Access client through a front-end server. Sometimes, it takes a long time for the Outlook Web Access clients to receive a response from the front-end server.

If you capture the network traffic on the front-end server, you can see the delay between the time that the front-end server receives the back-end servers response and the time that the front-end server responds to the Outlook Web Access client. This behavior occurs only when the back-end server takes a long time to prepare the response to the front-end server.

For example, typical network traffic may resemble the following:
Frame TimeSource Destination Info
49314:31:03.83 ClientFEGET /exchange/p087964/?cmd=eassearch

There is an unexpected delay 14:31:28.08 to 14:31:44:86
