Event ID 271 is logged in the System log after you install Microsoft MPIO Multipathing Support for iSCSI on a computer that is running Microsoft Windows Server 2003 or Microsoft Windows 2000 Server

Symptoms

After you install Microsoft MPIO Multipathing Support for iSCSI, an event that resembles the following is logged in the System log:

Event ID: 271
Source: PlugPlayManager
MPIO\DISK&VEN_device ID FileSystem\Ntfs 6 PNP_VetoDevice

You experience this problem on a computer that is using an iSCSI boot from SAN configuration and that is running Microsoft Windows Server 2003 or Microsoft Windows 2000 Server.

Cause

This issue occurs because the system requires a restart. This issue occurs when you install a driver for a device that is in a critical device path such as the boot disk. The property changes require a restart of the system.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, restart the computer. You may have to restart the computer three times to complete the MPIO installation for the boot disk.
