The Last Name field is blank in the Mail Merge Recipients dialog box when you use the Mail Merge feature on a computer that has a non-English version of 2007 Microsoft Office system installed

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You have a computer that is running a non-English version of Windows XP or of Windows Server 2003.
  • On this computer, you install a non-English version of 2007 Microsoft Office system.
    Note This problem also occurs if you install a non-English version of Microsoft Office 2003.
  • On this computer, you configure Microsoft Outlook with an Exchange account that contains several contacts.
    Note These contacts contain values for both the Last Name field and the First Name field. Additionally, these contacts are stored on the Exchange server.
  • You open a Word 2007 document in Microsoft Office Word 2007, and you use the Mail Merge feature. In the Select recipients option, you click Select from Outlook contacts.
In this scenario, you expect that both the last name and the first name are displayed in the Mail Merge Recipients dialog box. However, the Last Name field is blank.

Note This issue occurs in non-English versions of 2007 Microsoft Office system and of Microsoft Office 2003 for the following languages:
  • Brazilian
  • Czech
  • French
  • Greek
  • Italian
  • Korean
  • Polish
  • Portuguese
  • Russian
  • Spanish
  • Turkish

A hotfix is available to resolve this issue for all the affected languages.
