Symptoms

On a Windows Server 2003-based computer, the Single Instance Storage Groveler service stops unexpectedly during startup. This problem occurs after Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2 is installed.

When this problem occurs, the following event is logged in the System log:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Service Control Manager
Event Category: None
Event ID: 7034
Date: Date
Time: Time
User: N/A
Computer: ComputerName
Description:
The Single Instance Storage Groveler service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this n time(s).

Additionally, the following event log is logged in the Application log:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Application Error
Event Category: (100)
Event ID: 1000
Date: Date
Time: Time
User: N/A
Computer: ComputerName
Description:
Faulting application grovel.exe, version 5.2.3790.3959, faulting module grovel.exe, version 5.2.3790.3959, fault address <FaultMemoryAddress>.

Cause

This problem occurs because the Single Instance Storage Groveler service tries to access an unallocated memory space. This behavior causes an access violation.

Resolution

Hotfix information
