How to install the Outlook Integration feature for Microsoft Dynamics NAV 5.0

Prerequisites

• One of the following versions of Microsoft Office Outlook:
  • Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 64-bit version
  • Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 32-bit version
  • Microsoft Office Outlook 2003
  • Microsoft Office Outlook 2002
• The Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0
• Microsoft Dynamics NAV Application Server

Installation information

1. Install the Microsoft Dynamics NAV 5.0 client. During the setup, follow these steps:
   
   1. On the Setup Type page, click Custom, and then click Next.
      
   2. On the Custom Setup page, click the Outlook Integration button, click This feature, and all subfeatures, will be installed on local hard drive, click Next, and then click Install.
      
2. Install Microsoft Dynamics NAV 5.0 Database Server. To do this, click Install Database Server on the Microsoft Dynamics NAV 5.0 setup page, and then follow the directions that are in the wizard.
   
   Note You do not have to follow step 2 if you are running Microsoft Dynamics NAV by using the Microsoft SQL Server option.
3. Install Microsoft Dynamics NAV 5.0 Application Server. During the setup, follow these steps:
   
   1. On the Setup Type page, click Custom, and then click Next.
   2. On the Custom Setup page, click the Outlook Integration button, click This feature, and all subfeatures, will be installed on local hard drive, click Next, and then click Install.
      
   3. Click Next, and then click Install to install Application Server.
      
   4. Click Finish.
   5. Open the Microsoft Dynamics NAV Application Server snap-in.
   6. Set the startup parameter to OSYNCH.
   7. Complete the required fields for the corresponding server, for the corresponding database, and for the corresponding company.
   8. Click on Apply these settings.
   9. Create a Windows login that has a Super role in Microsoft Dynamics NAV.
   10. Open the Windows Services window.
   11. Right-click the NAS service, click Properties, and click the Log On tab.
   12. Run the NAS service by using the login that you created in step i.
   13. Apply the changes and start the NAS service.
   14. Open Event Viewer. Make sure that the application server starts successfully, and that the server has a startup parameter of OSYNCH.
4. Configure Microsoft Dynamics NAV 5.0 Application Server. To do this, follow these steps:
   1. Create a Windows login in Microsoft Dynamics NAV for the account that is running the application server. By default, this account is the Network Service account.
   2. Assign the SUPER role to this Windows login.
   3. Set the Startup Parameter for the Application Server to OSYNCH.
      
   4. Start the Application Server service.
   5. Examine the Event log and make sure that the application server was started by using a Startup Parameter of OSYNCH.
5. Activate the Change log and configure the Microsoft Dynamics NAV client for the Outlook Integration feature. To do this, follow these steps:
   1. In the Navigation Pane, click Administration, expand IT Administration, expand General Setup, and then click Change Log Setup.
   2. In the Change Log Setup dialog box, click to select the Change Log Activated check box.
   3. On the File menu, click Company, and then click Close.
      
   4. On the File menu, click Company, click Open, click the company name, and then click OK.
      
      Note To activate the Change log, you must close the company and open it again. Create Windows logins for the users who you want to use the Outlook Integration feature.
   5. On the Tools menu, click Security, and then click Windows Logins.
   6. In the ID column, click the arrow, and then click the user IDs of the users who you want to use the Outlook Integration feature. Assign Synchronization Entities to the users who you want to use the Outlook Integration feature
   7. In the Navigation Pane, click Administration, expand Application Setup, expand Microsoft Office Outlook Integration, and then click Outlook Synch.
   8. In the User ID column, click the arrow, click a user name, and then click OK.
      
   9. In the Synch. Entity Code column, click the arrow, click one of the five predefined synchronization entities, and then click OK.
   10. Click Setup, and then click Register in Change Log Setup.
       
6. Install the Outlook Add-in for Microsoft Dynamics NAV 5.0.
   
   1. Insert the Microsoft Dynamics NAV 5.0 CD into the CD drive.
      
   2. On the Microsoft Dynamics NAV 5.0 setup page, click Additional Tools.
      
   3. Click Install the Outlook Add-in, and then follow the steps in the Setup wizard. After the installation is complete, the Microsoft Dynamics NAV Synchronization toolbar appears in Outlook.
7. Configure the Synchronization toolbar in Outlook. To do this, follow these steps:
   
   1. In Outlook, click Settings on the Synchronization toolbar.
   2. On the Connection tab, click the type of database server that you use in the Server type area.
   3. In the Connection Type area, click the arrow in the Server Name box, and then click the server name.
   4. If you selected Microsoft SQL Server as the Server type, you must enter a database name. In the Database Name box, click the arrow, and then click the database name.
   5. In the Company Name box, click the arrow, and then click the company name.
   6. Click Test Connection.
   7. On the Folders tab, select a folder for each entity that you have set up for the user in Microsoft Dynamics NAV.
      
      Note You may have to create the Outlook folders first.
   8. On the Customize tab, click to select the Full Synchronization check box, click Apply, and then click OK.
   9. In Outlook, click Full Synchronization.
8. If you have selected Microsoft Dynamics NAV Database Server as the Server type, and if the TCP/IP network protocol is installed, you must change the Outlook.exe.config file. To do this, follow these steps:
   
   1. In the root folder of the Microsoft Office suite, locate the Outlook.exe.config file. For example, if Outlook 2007 is installed on the computer, the root folder for the Microsoft Office suite is the following folder:
      Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12
   2. Right-click Outlook.exe.config, click Open with, and then click Notepad.
      
   3. Locate the following line:
      <add key ="NativeProtocolType" value="NativeTcps"></add>
   4. Change "NativeTcps" to "NativeTcp" so that the line resembles the following line:
      <add key ="NativeProtocolType" value="NativeTcp"></add>
   5. On the File menu, click Save, and then click Exit on the File menu.
