Database resources are not brought online when you use a "HRESERestoreComplete" function to restore a cluster database programmatically in Exchange Server 2007

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

You use a HRESERestoreComplete function that uses the ESE_RESTORE_COMPLETE_ATTACH_DBS parameter to restore a Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 cluster database programmatically. When you do this, the cluster database is mounted successfully. However, the database resources are not brought online.

This issue occurs in "single copy clusters" (SCC) and "cluster continuous replication" (CCR) configurations in Exchange Server 2007.

Cause

This issue occurs because the HRESERestoreComplete function is not cluster-aware in Exchange Server 2007.

Workaround

To work around this issue, do not use the ESE_RESTORE_COMPLETE_ATTACH_DBS parameter with the HRESERestoreComplete function. Instead, use the Mount-Database cmdlet in the Microsoft Windows PowerShell to mount the restored database after the restore operation is complete.

The Mount-Database cmdlet is cluster-aware. This cmdlet mounts the database, and it also brings the database resources online.
