Introduction

This article describes how to use Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express (SSMSE) to move the Microsoft Dynamics CRM laptop client for Microsoft Office Outlook database to a different location.

Note Before you follow the instructions in this article, make sure that you have a complete backup copy of the database that you can restore if a problem occurs.
To use SSMSE to move the database to a different location, follow these steps:
  1. Back up the Microsoft Dynamics CRM laptop client for Outlook database that you want to move.
  2. Log on to the Microsoft Dynamics CRM laptop client for Outlook, click Go Online, and then synchronize all the offline data to the Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 server.
  3. Exit the Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 laptop client for Outlook.
  4. Start SSMSE.

    Note For more information about how to obtain SSMSE and how to install SSMSE, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
  5. Connect to the local instance of the Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 laptop client for Outlook.
  6. Expand Databases.
  7. Right-click the Metabase database.
  8. Point to Tasks, and then click Detach.
  9. Click OK.

    Note If you receive a message that states that some users are connected to the Microsoft Dynamics CRM laptop client for Outlook database, click Drop connection.
  10. Right-click the MSCRM_MSDE database.
  11. Repeat step 8 through step 9.
  12. Move the Metabase database files to the folder where you want to store the Metabase database.
  13. Move the MSCRM_MSDE database files to the folder where you want to store the MSCRM_MSDE database.
  14. In SSMSE, right-click Databases, and then click Attach.
  15. In the Attach databases dialog box, click Add.
  16. Select the folder to which you moved the Metabase database files, and then click OK.
  17. In the Attach databases dialog box, click Add.
  18. Select the folder to which you moved the MSCRM_MSDE database files, and then click OK.
