The Virtual Disk Service (VDS) in Windows Server 2003 does not return port-specific identifiers for a storage device

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

You use the IVdsDisk::GetIdentificationData method to retrieve device-specific information from the Virtual Disk Service (VDS) in Microsoft Windows Server 2003. The VDS returns device-specific identifiers as expected. However, the VDS does not return port-specific identifiers.

The "Microsoft Windows Logo Program System and Device" requirements specify that Vital Product Data (VPD) page 83h (Device Identification) for a SCSI storage device must correctly reflect port information. Therefore, you expect the VDS to return port-specific information.
