Enable sounds in LifeChat headset


Symptoms

When you use the Microsoft LifeChat headset, you cannot hear any sound from the speaker.

Cause

This issue occurs because the LifeChat headset is not set as the default playback device.

Resolution

Windows Vista or Windows 7

  1. Click StartStart button , type mmsys.cplin the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
  2. On the Playback tab, click your headset device name.


    Note The LifeChat LX-1000 has standard audio plugs instead of a USB connector. Therefore, LifeChat LX-1000 will use your computer’s sound card to control input and output.
  3. Click Set as default.
  4. Click OK.

Windows XP

  1. Click Start, click Run, type mmsys.cpl, and then click OK.
  2. Click the Audio tab.
  3. In the Sound playback section, select your headset, and set it as your Default device.

    Note The LifeChat LX-1000 has standard audio plugs instead of a USB connector. Therefore, LifeChat LX-1000 will use your computer’s sound card to control input and output.
  4. Click OK.
  5. Try to use the headset again. If the symptom has not been fixed, go to step 6.
  6. Click Start, click Run, type mmsys.cpl, and then click OK.
  7. On the Audio tab, click to select the Use only default devicescheck box, and then click OK.
