You cannot use command-line setup switches to create a customized Windows Internet Explorer 7 package when you use Internet Explorer Administration Kit 7 in certain license modes

Symptoms

When you use Internet Explorer Administration Kit 7 (IEAK 7) in certain license modes, you cannot use command-line setup switches such as /quiet and /norestart to create a customized Windows Internet Explorer 7 package.

This issue occurs when you use IEAK 7 in the following license modes:
  • Internet service provider (ISP)
  • Independent software vendor (ISV)
  • Internet content provider (ICP)

Cause

This issue occurs because these command-line setup switches are available only in the Corporate Administrator license mode.

Workaround

To work around this issue, use a command that resembles one of the following sample commands.

To create a setup package for full installation together with the setup switches, type a command that resembles the following at a command prompt:
path\IE7Setup.exe /C:"IE7Setup.cmd setup switches"
To create a configurable setup package together with the setup switches, type a command that resembles the following at a command prompt:
path\Setup.exe /C:"IE7Brand.cmd setup switches"
Notes
  • The path placeholder represents the path of the IEAK 7 output file.
  • The setup switches placeholder represents Internet Explorer setup switches such as /quiet and /norestart.
  • The IE7Setup.exe file is the setup package for a full installation. The IE7Setup.cmd file is the Setup program that the setup package uses to install Internet Explorer 7.
  • The Setup.exe file is the setup package for a configurable installation. The IEBrand.cmd file is the Setup program that the setup package uses to install Internet Explorer 7.
