Cyrillic letters are not displayed correctly in Web forms when you use Internet Explorer 7

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario.
  • You use Windows Internet Explorer 7 to visit a Web page.
  • You try to type Cyrillic letters in a Web form.
In this scenario, special characters and numbers appear instead of Cyrillic letters. For example you may see the following entry instead of Cyrillic letters:
:::::;;;;;;?????444444>>>>
Note You experience this problem in English language-based Web pages. You also experience this problem in non-Latin language-based Web pages, such as Bulgarian language-based Web pages.

Cause

This problem occurs when the BitComet 0.84 program installs the BitComet Helper (BitCometBHO_1.1.2.7.dll) Internet Explorer 7 add-on. The BitComet Helper add-on prevents the correct use of Cyrillic letters.

Note BitComet 0.84 is a BitTorrent client program.

Resolution

To resolve this problem, follow these steps:
  1. Start Internet Explorer 7.
  2. On the Tools menu, click Internet Options.
  3. Click the Programs tab, and then click Manage add-ons.
  4. In the Show drop-down list, click Add-ons that have been used by Internet Explorer.
  5. Click BitComet Helper, click Disable in the Settings area, and then click OK two times.
