FIX: Error message when you connect a scanner or a digital camera to a computer that is running Windows Vista or Windows XP Service Pack 2: "BAD_POOL_HEADER STOP"

Symptoms

When you connect a scanner or a digital camera to a computer that is running Windows Vista or Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2), Windows Vista or Windows XP may crash. Additionally, you may receive the following error message:
BAD_POOL_HEADER STOP: 0x00000019 (0x00000022, 0x00000000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)
This problem occurs when the scanner or the digital camera loads the Serial Scanner driver (Serscan.sys).

Note The device may load the Serial Scanner driver if it is connected by using a network or by using a Bluetooth transceiver.

This problem may occur when you are performing a stress test that involves the Serscan.sys file, such as the test that is performed by the Driver Test Manager.

Resolution

Windows Vista

Windows XP
