FIX: Windows Internet Explorer 7 does not download an ActiveX control that is referenced in a CODEBASE attribute when you open a Web page that contains the OBJECT element and the CLSID attribute is missing

Consider the following scenario:

• A computer is running Windows Vista, Microsoft Windows Server 2003, or Microsoft Windows XP.
• In Windows Internet Explorer 7, you open a Web page that contains the OBJECT element.
• The CLSID attribute is missing.

In this scenario, Internet Explorer does not start to download an ActiveX control that is referenced in the CODEBASE attribute.

This problem occurs because of change in Internet Explorer 7. Internet Explorer 7 requires the CLSID attribute when you use the OBJECT element together with the CODEBASE attribute to download controls.

To enable this hotfix, you must add the registry subkey. To do this, follow these steps:

1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
2. Locate and then click the following registry key:
   HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\FeatureControl
3. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click Key.
4. Type FEATURE_PERMIT_ACTIVEX_INSTALLATION_WITHOUT_CLSID_KB934014, and then press ENTER.
5. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD.
6. Type Iexplore.exe, and then click OK.
7. Right-click Iexplore.exe, and then click Modify.
8. In the Edit DWORD Value dialog box, type 1 in the Value data box, and then click OK.
9. Close Registry Editor.
