Symptoms

After you upgrade to Microsoft Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise Edition with Service Pack 2 (SP2), the versions of some files do not change.

This issue occurs when you have Microsoft Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard Edition installed together with optional components, and you then upgrade by using media that is slipstreamed with Windows Server 2003 SP2.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, use a Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise Edition CD that is integrated with Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2 (SP2) to upgrade the earlier installation of Windows Server 2003 R2. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Insert the first Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise Edition SP2 CD (CD1).
  2. In the Welcome dialog box, select the upgrade option. Then, follow the instructions that appear on the screen.
  3. Install Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise Edition SP2 from the second Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2 CD (CD2). Then, follow the instructions that appear on the screen.
  4. Install the Windows Server 2003 SP2 package.
