The text in a vertical frame does not print correctly in Word 2007

Symptoms

When you try to print text in a vertical frame in Microsoft Office Word 2007, the text in the vertical frame does not print correctly. The symptoms that you experience vary depending on the position of the frame and on the number of characters in the frame. In some cases, the text prints. However, the text may be scattered in the frame.

Note This problem does not occur in Microsoft Office Word 2003. Additionally, this problem does not occur with a print preview. However, this problem occurs when you use Word 2007 to print a document that was created in Word 2003.

Workaround

To work around this problem, use a vertical text box instead of a vertical frame. To do this, follow these steps.

Note If you are already using a frame, you must create a new vertical text box. Then, copy the text to the text box.
  1. On the Insert tab, click Text Box in the Text group, and then click Draw Text Box.
  2. Click in the document to draw a text box.
  3. In the text box, type ABCDE.
  4. Click the Microsoft Office Button, and then click Print.
