A Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 mailbox store cannot be added when you try to add the mailbox store to Microsoft Outlook

Symptoms

You experience one of the following problems when you try to add the Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 mailbox store to Microsoft Office Outlook:
  • When you try to add the Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 mailbox store to Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 after you close the Microsoft Dynamics CRM e-mail folder in Outlook 2007, the mailbox store is not added. Instead, you receive the following error message:
    An unknown error occurred, error code: 0x80040102
    Additionally, the following error message is logged in the Application log:
    The Microsoft CRM Outlook add-in was not initialized because Microsoft Outlook was started under a profile for which Microsoft CRM was not installed. Restart Microsoft Outlook under an appropriate profile, or install Microsoft CRM for the current profile.

  • When you try to add the Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 mailbox store to Microsoft Office Outlook 2003, Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 exits unexpectedly. Additionally, the following error message is logged in the event log:
    Faulting application outlook.exe, version 11.0.8118.0, stamp 456628bf, faulting module msmapi32.dll, version 11.0.8002.0, stamp 4373069d, debug? 0, fault address 0x000fcee7.
Note This problem occurs only in the Microsoft Dynamics CRM client for Outlook Compatibility Release.

Workaround

To work around this problem, use one of the following methods.

Method 1

If you are using Outlook 2007, repair the Microsoft Dynamics CRM client for Outlook. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start
    , and then click Control Panel.
  2. Click Programs.
  3. Click Programs and Features.
  4. Click Microsoft CRM desktop client for Microsoft Office Outlook, and then click Repair.

Method 2

If you are using Outlook 2003, restart Outlook 2003.
