FIX: The AutoComplete feature does not work after you click a JavaScript hyperlink on a Web page in Internet Explorer 6

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario. In Microsoft Internet Explorer 6, you type text in a field on a form. Then, you click a JavaScript hyperlink on a Web page. In this scenario, the AutoComplete feature does not work. When you type the same text in the same field on the form, the AutoComplete box does not appear.

Cause

This problem occurs because of a problem in the AutoComplete feature in Internet Explorer 6. The problem in the AutoComplete feature occurs after you click the JavaScript hyperlink.

Resolution

Hotfix information

Windows Server 2003

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. After you apply this hotfix, you must enable this hotfix. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Make sure that you exit Internet Explorer.
  2. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
  3. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\FeatureControl
  4. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click Key.
  5. Type FEATURE_INTELLIFORMS_ALTERNATE_RELEASE_KB931298, and then press ENTER.
  6. Click FEATURE_INTELLIFORMS_ALTERNATE_RELEASE_KB931298.
  7. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
  8. Type Iexplore.exe, and then press ENTER.
  9. Right-click Iexplore.exe, and then click Modify.
  10. In the Value data box, type 1, and then click OK.

Workaround

To work around this problem, refresh the Web page to enable the AutoComplete feature.
