ActiveX controls are inactive when you access a Web page by using Internet Explorer 7


Symptoms

In Windows Internet Explorer 7, you access a Web page that contains an ActiveX control. However, the ActiveX control is inactive. This problem occurs if the following conditions are true:
  • You install a script debugger on the computer. For example, you install the Microsoft Script Debugger.
  • In Internet Explorer, you clear the Disable script debugging (Internet Explorer) check box in the Browsing area on the Advanced tab in Internet Options.
Note An inactive ActiveX control will not respond to user interaction.

This problem occurs if Internet Explorer does not correctly evaluate the changes that you make to the Disable script debugging (Internet Explorer) setting.

Resolution

Security update information

To resolve this problem, install the most current cumulative security update for Internet Explorer. Steps to reproduce the problem

  1. Start Internet Explorer 7.
  2. Click Tools, and then click Internet Options.
  3. On the Advanced tab, click to clear the Disable script debugging (Internet Explorer) check box.
  4. Install a script debugger. To download the Microsoft Script Debugger that is compatible with Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 and later versions of the Windows operating system, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
