The Competitor Win Loss report contains incorrect data in Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0

Symptoms

When you run the Competitor Win Loss report in Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0, the report contains incorrect data in the No. Open Opportunities Against Competitor field and in the No. Closed Opportunities Against Competitor field. The report lists some competitors that should not appear in the report.

Resolution

A supported hotfix is available from Microsoft. However, this hotfix is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply this hotfix only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix might receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next software update that contains this hotfix.

Installation information

This hotfix contains a self-extracting package file. After you extract the contents of the package file, follow these steps to install the updated reports on the Microsoft Dynamics CRM Web client:
  1. Copy the .rdl report files to the root directory on drive C.
  2. Click Workplace, and then click Reports.
  3. Update the Competitor Win Loss report. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. In the Category list, click All Reports.
    2. In the Entity list, click Competitors.
    3. Click the Competitor Win Loss report, click More Actions, and then click Edit Report.
    4. In the Report Type pane, click File, and then click Browse.
    5. Click the Competitor Win Loss.rdl report file that you copied in step 1, and then click Save and Close.
  4. Update the Competitor Win Loss Detail report. To do this, follow these steps:
    1. In the Category list, click Hidden Reports.
    2. In the Entity list, click Competitors.
    3. Click the Competitor Win Loss Detail report, click More Actions, and then click Edit Report.
    4. In the Report Type pane, click File, and then click Browse.
    5. Click the Competitor Win Loss Details.rdl report file that you copied in step 1, and then click Save and Close.
    Note To revert to the original report file, repeat steps 3 and 4. But, in steps 3e and 4e, select the original .rdl file. By default, the original .rdl file is in the following directory:
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft CRM\Reports\MSCRM

Prerequisites

You must have Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 installed to apply this hotfix.

Restart requirement

If you are prompted, restart the computer after you install the hotfix.

Removal information

To remove this hotfix, follow the steps in the "Installation information" section to reinstall the original reports.

Steps to reproduce the problem

  1. Create an opportunity.
  2. Associate the opportunity with the following competitors:
    • Competitor 1
    • Competitor 2
    • Competitor 3
  3. Close the opportunity by using the following settings:
    • Status: Lost
    • Competitor: Competitor 3
  4. Run the Competitor Win Loss report.
The report incorrectly lists the following competitors:
  • Competitor 1
  • Competitor 2
The No. Closed Opportunities Against Competitor field contains a nonzero value for Competitor 1 and for Competitor 2. The No. Open Opportunities Against Competitor field contains a value of 0 (zero) for Competitor 1 and for Competitor 2. However, you expect the report to list only Competitor 3.
