FIX: SoapExceptionMsg messages are repeated and accumulate in the Spool table in the BizTalkMsgBoxDb database in BizTalk Server 2006 and in BizTalk Server 2004

View products that this article applies to.

Symptoms

On a computer that is running Microsoft BizTalk Server 2006 or Microsoft BizTalk Server 2004, you may experience the following symptoms:
  • You notice many SoapExceptionMsg message routing failure reports in the Health and Activity Tracking message view.
  • The size of the Spool table in the BizTalkMsgBoxDb database increases very quickly.
  • SoapExceptionMsg messages are repeated and accumulate in the Spool table.

Cause

This problem occurs when the SoapExceptionMsg message is published to the message box without routing properties. When this behavior occurs, the SoapExceptionMsg message cannot find the subscribers. Therefore, the message box immediately redelivers the SoapExceptionMsg message to the orchestration instance. In this case, the SoapExceptionMsg message goes down the same logic path repeatedly. This behavior leads to a lock situation.
