Symptoms

Consider the following scenario:
  • You have Update Rollup 2 for Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 installed on a computer that is running Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005.
  • You try to download a version of Windows Internet Explorer 7 whose language setting matches the language setting of the Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 installation.
In this scenario, you receive a language compatibility error message. Additionally, you cannot install Internet Explorer 7 on the computer.

Cause

This problem occurs because the Internet Explorer 7 version must match the base language of the computer's operating system. Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 is localized by using the Multilingual User Interface Pack (MUI). Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 uses English as the base language. Therefore, you can install only an English version of Internet Explorer 7.

Workaround

To work around this problem, install an English version of Internet Explorer 7.

More information

To resolve this problem, use the Internet Explorer 7 MUI Pack. The Internet Explorer 7 MUI Pack will be available when the last fully localized version of Internet Explorer 7 is released in January 2007.
